Role Brief:

The Digital Therapist (AHPRA Registered Psychologist) is a pivotal clinical role within Spectrum.Life's Australian mental health team. Operating within our PHN-aligned Stepped Care Model, the Digital Therapist delivers evidence-based psychological interventions digitally — via video, phone, and structured digital formats — to employees, students, and individuals experiencing mild to moderate–severe mental health difficulties.
This role operates primarily at Bands 2 and 3 of the Spectrum.Life Stepped Care Model, with capacity to support Band 4 assessment and triage. The Digital Therapist brings advanced psychological training, APS/AHPRA regulatory compliance, and a genuine commitment to accessible, technology-mediated mental healthcare.
 
Stepped Care Context
Band 2 (Low Intensity): Brief structured counselling, low-intensity CBT, Behavioural Activation, psychoeducation — 3 to 6 sessions. Band 3 (Moderate Intensity): High-intensity CBT, TF-CBT, EMDR, IPT, ACT, Schema-informed work — 6 to 12 sessions. Band 4 (High Intensity / Triage): Assessment, crisis triage, safety planning, coordinated referral to specialist or inpatient services.
 

Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Delivery

  • Deliver evidence-based psychological interventions digitally (video, phone, text-based) to individuals presenting with mild to moderate–severe mental health difficulties
  • Provide high-intensity CBT and other structured evidence-based therapies aligned with NHMRC guidelines and APS clinical practice recommendations, including:
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT)
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Behavioural Activation (BA)
  • Mindfulness-Based Interventions
  • Develop individualised, evidence-based treatment plans grounded in comprehensive clinical formulation
  • Adapt therapeutic interventions for remote delivery to ensure effectiveness and engagement in a digital format
  • Determine appropriate treatment pathways within the Spectrum.Life Stepped Care Model

2. Assessment & Triage

  • Conduct comprehensive initial mental health assessments including Mental Status Examination (MSE)
  • Assess risk (including suicide risk, self-harm, harm to others) and implement evidence-based safety planning
  • Triage clients to the appropriate service band and care pathway
  • Administer, score, and interpret validated outcome measures including K-10, PHQ-9, GAD-7, DASS-21, CORE-10, PCL-5, and WSAS
  • Identify clinical presentations that require step-up or step-down within the care pathway

3. Clinical Governance & Professional Practice

  • Operate at all times within the Psychology Board of Australia Code of Conduct and APS Code of Ethics
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and contemporaneous clinical records in Spectrum.Life's case management system
  • Adhere to Australian Privacy Act 1988, the Privacy Principles, GDPR requirements where applicable, and Spectrum.Life confidentiality policies
  • Participate in regular individual and group clinical supervision as required by the Psychology Board of Australia and Spectrum.Life policy
  • Engage in mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with AHPRA requirements (minimum 30 hours per year)
  • Report critical incidents, mandatory notifications, and safeguarding concerns in accordance with relevant Australian legislation and Spectrum.Life policy
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement, and outcome evaluation activities

4. Collaboration & Service Development

  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical team including counsellors, psychotherapists, and senior psychologists
  • Liaise with other treating professionals (GPs, psychiatrists, allied health) as appropriate and with client consent
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of digital mental health tools, clinical protocols, and service offerings
  • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and peer consultation forums
  • Provide feedback to support digital service improvement and clinical innovation
 

Requirements:

  • Current unconditional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) — mandatory; no conditions, undertakings, or reprimands
  • Completion of an APAC-accredited postgraduate psychology qualification (MPsych, DPsych, or equivalent APS-accredited program)
  • Minimum two (2) years post-registration clinical experience within a mental health context
  • Demonstrated competency in delivering evidence-based psychological therapies
  • Experience conducting clinical risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis management
  • Strong digital literacy — proficient with video conferencing, Microsoft 365, and clinical management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clinical documentation and client interaction
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to ethical practice, clinical supervision, and ongoing CPD
  • Right to work in Australia

Desirable:

  • Area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology (AHPRA)
  • Medicare Provider Number or eligibility to obtain
  • Experience within an EAP, digital health, or community mental health setting
  • Training and competency in EMDR, TF-CBT, ACT, IPT, CFT, or Schema Therapy
  • Experience using standardised outcome measures in a clinical setting
  • Board-Approved Supervisor status
  • Cultural safety training; experience working with First Nations or CALD populations
  • Experience providing telehealth or digital therapy services
  • Ability to conduct assessments or therapy in a language other than English
